| What
investment on a 500 acre farm could produce an
additional $200,000.00* in crop receipts over
five years?...The Paratill. A report from Mississippi State
University shows yield analysis for various
tillage systems in cotton for crop years 1994
through 1998. The tillage system which included
operation of Paratill consistently produced
higher yields than any other tillage system. In
the 1994 study, Paratilled cotton yields were
close to double the yield of other tillage
systems. Paratilled cotton yields were
significantly higher (18%) than any other tillage
system tested over the five years. Want higher
yields? Try a Paratill.
The Paratill is not just a tillage tool for cotton. The
MSU report "Corn Response to Paratill
indicates the same type illustrated above with
cotton. The field test reflects a 77.8 bushel per
acre yield for conventional tillage treatment.
Test plots that were treated with Paratill
presented a yield of 106.3 bushels per acre
(36.6% increase). Although both yields indicate
the undesirable conditions that existed for the
growing season, the comparison illustrates the
benefits of deep tillage with the Paratill.
Careful evaluation of the
cotton and corn tillage field tests indicate the
maximum benefits of Paratilling can be found when
a crop experiences an extended dry period from
the middle to late growing season. This is a
critical point when fruit of the crop is
developing. The Paratill (and its newer cousin,
the TerraTill®) loosen the soil in Fall or Spring
to let rainfall or irrigation water soak into the
ground. Subsoil moisture is available to a
maturing crop root zone when the crop needs it
most. Drought is one of the worst production
fears that a farmer canface. The Paratill could
be an insurance policy against crop failure if a
mild to moderate drought occurs in your area.
The Paratill can also be
a cornerstone to a stale bed or reduced tillage
system. Tillage treatment may be applied without
the need for additional trips. Surface clodding
commonly associated with ripper or chisel type
plows often require other field trips in order to
prepare beds or seedbeds. The Paratill will not
produce surface clods or bury residue. Deep
tillage with the Paratill can give you profit
potential in two ways: Save money with fewer
field trips, make more money with higher yields.

* Following the
guidelines of the MSU report Cotton
Response to Row Spacing, Tillage and Crop
Rotation average yields for Paratill plots
in 30 rows were 861 lbs. of lint per acre.
Conventional tillage yield on 30 rows was
728 lbs of lint per acre. Yield analysis was
averaged over five years. $200,000.00 crop
receipt gain assumes an additional 133 lint lb/ac
per year at .60 per lb. over a five year period.
